Archie Miller Should Look Familiar - Dayton
If you are wondering why Archie Miller looks familiar, it is because he looks a lot like his brother Sean Miller, head coach at Arizona. The Miller’s know their basketball. Their father retired in 2005 as one of the nation’s top high school coaches. Sean and Archie, as well as their sister Lisa, played Division I basketball. For Archie, the road to Dayton took the usual route for a young assistant.
Archie played point guard at North Carolina State for four years. Following his playing days, he immediately took an assistant coaching job at Western Kentucky. A year later he worked under Herb Sendek at North Carolina State for two seasons and then one season at Arizona State. Then it was off to learn from Thad Matta at Ohio State for a year. Archie spent the last two seasons as an assistant for his brother at Arizona, culminating with a trip to the Elite Eight last season. He is regarded as a fine recruiter and a great tactician of the game. That is no surprise considering his lineage. His hiring at Dayton should be the start of a fine head coaching career for the 32 year old. Stepping into a place like Dayton for your first head coaching job is rare and the pressure will be on Archie to put up some results quickly.
With Archie’s hiring at Dayton, there are now three head coaching brother duos in Division I basketball. Joining Archie at Dayton and Sean at Arizona are Seth Greenburg of Virginia Tech and Brad of Radford and Tom Herrion of Marshall and Bill at New Hampshire.
