Cardale Jones, Quarterback, Ohio State
Overview:
Cardale Jones has a lot to prove. For all practical purposes, the 6-5, 250 pound quarterback made his debut in the Big Ten title game against Wisconsin. After injuries to Braxton Miller and J.T. Barrett, Jones threw for 257 yards and three touchdowns in the 59-0 blowout win against the Badgers. That propelled Ohio State to the playoffs and Jones kept the good times rolling. He threw for 243 yards against Alabama in the semifinals and led the Buckeyes to a 42-35 win. In the national title game, Jones was much more efficient, completing 16-of-23 passes for 242 yards and one touchdown. Jones also ran for a score in the title game.
Final Projection:
Jones has a big frame and a big arm. He is surprising elusive and could make a great NFL quarterback. However, he has only played three games heading into the 2015 season. First of all, Jones has to win, and keep, the starting quarterback job at Ohio State to stay high on draft boards. That is easier said than done. But even if Jones fails to live up to the lofty expectations during his junior year, he still has the potential to be a first round draft pick.
