Oklahoma Softball Wins; Chamberlain Fails to Homer
NORMAN, Okla -- University of Oklahoma slugger Lauren Chamberlain got one hit in Monday's 6-3 win over North Texas, but it wasn't home run No. 91.Chamberlain, who hit a career record tying homer No. 90 on Saturday, will now face Oklahoma State on Wednesday evening in another attempt to set the NCAA career homer record and break a tie with former UCLA slugger Stacy Nuveman.
Monday, Chamberlain popped out her first two at-bats before hitting a double in the fourth and then walking in her final at-bat as OU won for the 39th time against six losses this season. Kelsey Stevens started for the Sooners in the circle but was replaced by Shelby Pendley (12-1) with two outs in the third inning. Pendley finished the game and fanned seven batters and didn't allow any runs, striking out seven in hurling 58 pitches. She allowed four hits and started the game at shortstop before replacing Stevens who allowed four hits and three runs in two and one-third innings.
The Sooners collected 12 hits off three Mean Green pitchers with the difference a two-run homer by third baseman Kasey Arnold in the third inning. It was her second homer of the year. The Sooners' Erin Miller hit her seventh homer of the season over right field in the bottom of the first to give OU a 2-0 lead before the Mean Green scored once in the second and twice in the third to take a 3-2 lead before the Sooners scored three times in the bottom of the third, including Arnold's homer to right center to take the lead for good, breaking a three-all tie. The Sooners added another run in the sixth inning for the final margin of victory. It was the 26th time OU has beaten North Texas State and has yet to lose to the Mean Green (16-24) in the series which started in 2004.
