Chamberlain Nears Softball Home Run Record
NORMAN, Okla. - It's two and counting for Oklahoma softball slugger Lauren Chamberlain after she hit career homer No. 88 against Iowa State in a Big 12 doubleheader on Saturday. Chamberlain hit her 16th homer this season and No. 88 of her career in the third inning of an 8-1 win in the first game of the twinbill. OU won the second game in five innings, 16-1, for its 18th run-rule win of the season. The homer moved Chamberlain into sole possession of second place on the all-time career homer list and two away from the record of 90 held by former UCLA star Stacey Nuveman Deniz, who is associate head coach at San Diego State.
Chamberlain wasn't the only OU player to advance on the career homer list. Senior Shelby Pendley hit a pair of homers in the second game to increase her career total to 77, moving her into eighth place on the career homer list. Pendley got the win in the first game from the circle and is 9-1 for the year. She fanned eight and allowed only one earned run in getting the win. Freshman Paige Parker was the winning hurler in the second game, allowing one run in 4 2/3 innings for her 16th win against three losses. OU is now 32-5 overall and 6-0 in the Big 12.
