Last Four In: Utah, Oregon State, Stanford, Tulsa
First Four Out: Cal State Fullerton, Long Beach State, Maryland, Purdue
LSU takes over as the number one team in the nation after absolutely destroying the Florida pitching on Saturday and Sunday. They scored 24 runs in winning the series two games to one. Oregon and Oklahoma also put up some absurd offensive numbers, as the Ducks beat rival Oregon State 23-12 in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Sooners are hitting homeruns at a potentially record breaking pace and they scored 23 runs twice in wins over Iowa and East Carolina this past weekend. Alabama continues to assert themselves as a team that is getting better each week after outlasting Georgia to win that series in Athens. UCLA picked up a signature win over Baylor and they are starting to put everything together with more consistency in all phases of the game. Kent State is on the rise as a mid-major after going into Ann Arbor and pulling the upset over Michigan in the first game of the series to go along with a win over Central Florida earlier this season. Finally, Arizona stepped up with a big series win over California and the Wildcats stabilized their pitching enough to hold off the Golden Bears. The key for teams in general moving forward is going to be taking care of business at the plate and punishing teams for mistakes as the days of settling for 1-0 wins with dominant pitching are becoming less prevalent. The hitting is just too good in college softball.
