Harvard vs. Yale Lives up to the Hype
Few times in life does an event actually live up to its hype. And the Yale/Harvard hype was at a fever pitch when ESPN's Gameday signed on to be there. Not to be forgotten was that 8-1 Yale was trying to beat 9-0 Harvard for a share of the Ivy crown. The game lived up to its billing. And more.
Harvard came out on top, 31-24 before over 30,000 in Cambridge, but not before Yale staged a furious fourth quarter rally to tie the game at 24. Harvard then drove down the field behind injured quarterback Connor Hempel and put the game away with 55 seconds remaining on a picture perfect 35-yard pass to Andrew Fischer. Yale's offensive stars did not disappoint. Junior quarterback Morgan Roberts threw for 305 yards and running back Tyler Varga, playing his last Yale game before an almost assured NFL career. ran for three touchdowns and 127 yards. Harvard completed its third undefeated season in 21 years under head coach Tim Murphy. Yale returns virtually everyone from a veteran offense and a young defense and should be the favorite to win the Ivies next year.
