The Game Garnering Even More Buzz than Usual
It is called The Game and this year it really is. The Ivy title is on the line and ESPN's GameDay will be live from Harvard Stadium from 9 am until Noon. Not a bad choice over USC-UCLA. Yale enters the game at 8-1 and Harvard at 9-0 and nationally ranked. The Elis are one game behind in the Ivies, having lost earlier in the season to Dartmouth at home.
It is a game of contrasting styles. Yale, led by the best runner in the Ivies in Tyler Varga, averages 43 points per game. Harvard gives up 11. Harvard also has a prolific offense, second in the Ivies to Yale and handled Dartmouth easily earlier in the season.
This game is the 131st in the series, with Yale holding the lead at 65-57-8 and even an advantage at Harvard Stadium, which sits on the Charles River and can be a cold place to play. The weather will be brisk on Saturday. Yale has not won The Game since 2006 and now has at the helm a former Harvard assistant in Tony Reno, who constantly talks about "execution." Yale has not won the Ivy title since it shared it with Princeton in 2006 and Harvard and Yale have shared the title twice, in 1968 and 1974. Look for a high scoring game, with Yale coming out on top by a field goal.
