First Four Out: Boston College, Texas, Georgia, St. John’s
The quarterfinal round of conference tournaments proved on Wednesday that, when in doubt, bet on the more desperate team to get the result. Upsets were aplenty in the Big 12 Conference Tournament as three lower seeds advanced to the semifinals for the first time in the history of the tournament. Penn State was shocked by number eight seed Northwestern, which could possibly bump them down to the number three line for seeding pending on other conference tournaments. Minnesota knocked off Michigan to put themselves in a very good position for an NCAA Tournament bid. Tennessee surprised number two seed Florida in penalty kicks to advance to the SEC semifinals. South Carolina solidified their shot at solid draw with a big win over Missouri. The winners this week just might be the Pac-12 for not having a conference tournament and the ACC for narrowing its tournament to four teams as it limits the risk of top teams getting upset by a lower seeded team.
