Sooner Softball Ready for a Big 2015 Season
NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma women's softball team closed out its fall schedule with a sweep of the University of Arkansas, 4-1 and 9-1, to finish 8-0 with an eye toward the 2015 season.
The Sooners scored three shutouts in the fall and outscored the opposition, 92-7, between September 26th and November 1st.
Oklahoma enters the 2015 campaign looking to become the first team to record five straight trips to the Women’s College World Series since Arizona reached six in a row from 2005-10. The Sooners are seeking a fourth straight Big 12 title.
OU opens the 2015 season against DePaul February 5th in Honolulu, Hawaii in the Oceanic Time Warner Cable Paradise Classic. This is OU's first trip to Hawaii since opening the 2009 season here. OU will also play in tournaments in Tempe, Arizona (Feb. 13-15) and Palm Springs, California (Feb. 19-21). The Sooners' first home game is a February 28th doubleheader against Fort Wayne, and they open Big 12 play against Texas Tech on March 27th in Lubbock.
To get back to the tournament, the Sooners will have to face 13 teams that reached the postseason last year, including five that advanced to the Super Regionals and two of the other seven teams that made it to the WCWS along with OU.
“Year in and year out, we continue to play a tough schedule because the philosophy of our program is that we don’t back down from anybody,” OU head coach Patty Gasso said. “We know that these kinds of games prepare us for our ending, and that’s what it’s all about. In order to get where we want to go, we have to travel down a tough road throughout the season. We prepare for that, we embrace that and we’re excited for what the season has in store.”
