Jake Bequette, Senior, Defensive End, Arkansas
Overview:
The Arkansas defense was surprisingly good in 2010 and defensive end Jake Bequette deserves some of the credit. The 6-5, 271 pound, Little Rock native consistently created pressure in the backfield and that helped the entire defense. However, Bequette’s production started well before 2010. As a redshirt freshman in 2008, Bequette was inserted into the starting lineup after just one game and ended the year with 41 tackles, 3.5 tackles-for-loss and a sack. The following season he was again a part-time starter and totaled 39 tackles, 9.0 tackles-for-loss, 5.5 sacks and forced two fumbles
Bequette’s numbers in 2010 were not eye popping, but he commanded double teams every once in a while. On the year he tallied 32 tackles, 8.5 tackles-for-loss and a team high 7.0 sacks.
Final Projection:
Bequette has a high motor and will keep his legs churning. Even against opposing linemen who are stronger and quicker, Bequette can break them down and eventually get into the backfield. He may not wow anybody with his physical attributes, but he is a hard-nosed football player who is not afraid to mix it up with anybody.
