Steven Neumann, Senior, Forward/Midfield, Georgetown
Overview:
It did not take long for Neumann to get acclimated with college soccer at Georgetown, as he registered a mind-boggling 28 points (10G, 8A) for the Hoyas in 2010 and was named First Team All-Freshman by Soccer America. Neumann followed up his stellar rookie campaign with an even better sophomore season, starting all 19 games for Georgetown and leading the team in scoring with 29 points (11G, 7A), including six game-winning goals.
Neumann failed to let up in 2012, starting all 26 games for the Hoyas and leading the team in assists. His 33 points (10G, 13A) were second only to Brandon Allen (34 points) and earned Neumann Second Team All-American honors by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Neumann helped lead Georgetown to its first ever College Cup final, notching a hat trick against Maryland in the semifinals – the first time a player has done this since 1993 – and also being named the College Cup Offensive Player of the Tournament.
Final Projection:
Neumann is a well-rounded player who can score in addition to setting up teammates. He is also capable of delivering quality balls on set pieces, particularly corner kicks. Neumann lacks the size and strength to be a pure striker, which is why he typically acts as a secondary-striker or an attacking midfielder. He can create time and space off the dribble and possesses the necessary pace to press opponents and generate turnovers.
