Kenny Diekroeger, Junior, Shortstop, Stanford
Overview:
Kenny Diekroeger arrived at Stanford with very high expectations. He was a second round draft pick in the 2009 MLB Draft before opting to head to Palo Alto instead. And the 6-2 shortstop did not disappoint in college. He led the team with a .356 batting average and proved to be a capable hitter in all aspects of the game. Diekroeger had a bit of a sophomore slump when he batted just .293 and hit a mere two home runs. However, Diekroeger is a solid hitter and his inconsistent sophomore season is not the norm.
Final Projection:
Diekroeger played third base as a freshman before moving over to his natural shortstop spot during his sophomore campaign. However, he may be a better fit in the outfield and that is where some MLB teams may see his future. He is a good athlete who can make plays at shortstop, but he will need to be more consistent and make the plays he should make if he has a future in the infield. Either way, Diekroeger is a smart ball player and an all-around great player who should be a first round draft pick.
