Mark Appel, Junior, Pitcher, Stanford
Overview:
Mark Appel started his collegiate career at Stanford as a spot starter and a relief pitcher. He did perform quite well most of the time, but his earned run average was up at 5.92. A year later, in 2011, Appel was put into a starting role. On the year he started 17 games and struck out 86 batters in 110.1 innings. Appel proved to have good control and a dominating repertoire of pitches.
Final Projection:
Appel was drafted in 15th round out of high school and should be a first rounder three years later. He is a typical power pitcher with a nice fastball, but it is his ability to mix in his strong slider and a very good changeup that will likely make Appel one of the top five selections in the 2012 Major League Baseball draft.
