Last Four In: Georgia Tech, Michigan, Michigan State, Northeastern
 
First Four Out:  Long Beach State, Oregon State, Washington, Old Dominion
 
Vanderbilt, with an unblemished record in SEC play at 9-0, overtakes LSU for the projected top spot in the conference. Michigan and Michigan State make an appearance from the Big Ten, while Virginia Tech and Duke join the field from the ACC. Northeastern earns an at-large bid from the Colonial Athletic Association from such a high RPI. Several teams from the Sun Belt drop out. Only Coastal Carolina (projected autobid) and Southern Miss remain in the tournament. Ole Miss, the defending National Champion, is nowhere to be found and neither is Mississippi State.
