Brittany Rayburn, Senior, Shooting Guard, Purdue

  Purdue Team Page

Overview:

As a freshman Brittany Rayburn only started one game, but she made a huge impact for the Purdue squad. Named the Big Ten’s Sixth Player of the Year, Rayburn ranked third on the team with a scoring average of 9.8 points per game. The following season Rayburn earned a variety of All-Conference accolades and turned into Purdue’s go-to-scorer. She easily led the squad with 14.6 points per game. But Rayburn also started to develop into more than a scorer and added 3.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.4 steals per contest.

As an upperclassman Rayburn continued to do plenty of scoring. At 6-0, she can be difficult to defend. She can dribble right past slower defenders or simply shoot over smaller defenders. As a result, Rayburn again led Purdue in scoring.

Final Projection:

The concern for Rayburn heading towards the WNBA is her shooting percentage. She has nice size and can score in a variety of ways, but she is not a great pure shooter. As a freshman she shot just 32.6 percent from beyond the arc. The following year that number slipped to 30.4 percent and during the 2010-2011 campaign it was a mediocre 30.7 percent. Rayburn will take a lot of shots, but she will need to be more consistent before the WNBA Draft rolls around.
